Job Description
Schedules appointments for patients by telephone, online or in person by performing the following duties. Interviews incoming patient or representative and enters information required for registration/admission into computer. Variable shifts.
Responsibilities
- Obtains specific information from patient or significant other such as age and insurance coverage
- Enters correct appointment date and time in scheduling system
- Reminds patient of appointment
- Informs patient regarding necessary payment and/or required documentation (HCAP/Tax Forms)
- Provides printed copy to physician’s office upon request
- Maintains all specialty clinic scheduling protocol
- Maintains scheduling module and makes recommendations on changes or improvements in process
- Fills vacancies by rescheduling patient(s) when appropriate
- Compiles data for occupancy and census records
- Receives payments on accounts
- Obtains signed consent from patients for billing purposes
- Places records and blank history sheets in order and files them in folder
- Tallies numbers of outpatients entering each day of the week
- Verifies insurance, explains procedure to patient
- Calls insurance companies
- Documents referral and authorization information
- Initiates utilization review
- Explains Hospital regulations such as visiting hours, payment of accounts, and scheduling of charges
- Gives general information about patient services
- Reviews Patient Rights and Responsibilities
- Reviews how to report patient complaints, concerns and compliments
- Reviews advanced directives with patients
- Opens cashier drawer, balances cashier drawer and closes cashier drawer.
Education and/or Experience/Certificates
High school diploma or general education degree (GED). At least one (1) year of experience working in registration or billing of a healthcare setting preferred.
