Respiratory Therapist

Job Description

Administers respiratory therapy care and life support to patients with deficiencies and abnormalities of cardiopulmonary system, under supervision of Physician and by prescription, by performing the following duties.

Responsibilities

• Reads prescriptions
• Performs assessments
• Monitors patient’s physiological responses to therapy such as vital signs, arterial blood gases, and blood chemistry
• Knowledgeable concerning indications, contraindications and adverse reactions to aerosolized medications and therapeutic modalities and consults physician if necessary
• Sets up, maintains and troubleshoots respiratory equipment, including 02 delivery devices
• Preforms brochopulmonary drainage and assists patient with performing breathing exercises
• Performs pulmonary function test to be used by physician in diagnosis of case
• Maintains patient chart that contains pertinent identification and therapy information
• Assists in cardiopulmonary resuscitation and airway management
• Inspects and tests respiratory therapy equipment to ensure equipment is functioning safely and efficiently
• Sets up and maintains continuous ventilators and other life support devices as necessary

Requirements

• Associate’s degree (A. A.), Certificate, and six months to one year related experience and/or training.
