Job Description
The staff athletic trainer practices the prevention, recognition, and assessment of an athletic injury and provides management, treatment, disposition and reconditioning of acute athletic injury upon the referral of a practitioner licensed under Ohio Revised Code Section 4755.621. The position largely focuses on providing care to student-athletes within the community high schools. The position does not require clinic duties at this time.
Patient population generally includes student-athletes, grades 7-12, participating in activity and sport within OHSAA sport practices and competition; patient population may extend to active people experiencing athletic injury throughout the lifespan.
Responsibilities
- Recognizes, assesses, and manages athletic injuries
- Renders emergency care and lifesaving efforts as outlined per Emergency Action Plan
- Renders first aid such as cleaning and bandaging wounds
- Performs reconditioning of acute and chronic injuries
- Performs various treatment techniques including manual therapy and modalities as defined by referring physician
- Arranges for referrals to appropriate specialties
- Maintains injury prevention recommendations of proper warm-up, cool-down, strengthening, and stretching programs as needed/requested
- Maintains communication working relationship with other healthcare providers to enhance continuity of care
- Utilizes taping and bracing techniques as indicated by injury management procedures
- Maintains proper documentation of assessment, treatment, and outcomes including referrals to other healthcare providers
- Complete yearly safety training online modules from school district and hospital per policy
- Maintain education to proficiently perform required job tasks and maintain certification and state licensure
Requirements
- Earned degree in Athletic Training from an accredited Bachelor’s or Master’s program
- Successfully challenged Board of Certification exam and continued certification maintenance
- Hold a current license from the Ohio OTPTAT Board or be licensed in Ohio by the date of employment
