Job Description
Interviews incoming patient or representative and enters information required for registration/admission into computer. Variable shifts.
Responsibilities
- Interviews patient or representative to obtain and record name, address, physician, insurance company, etc.
- Obtains consent for treatment
- Uses ICD-10 codes for all outpatient diagnosis
- Escorts patient or arranges for escort to assigned room
- Enters patient admitting information into computer and routes printed copy to designated department
- Stores patient’s valuables
- Notifies department of patient’s admission
- Call physician office for order or diagnosis
- Compiles data for occupancy and census records
- Confers with nursing to coordinate and schedule admission of patient
- Verifies insurance, explains procedure to patient
- Calls insurance companies
- Documents referral and authorization information
- Initiates utilization review
- Explains Hospital regulations such as visiting hours, payment of accounts, and scheduling of charges
- Gives general information about patient services
- Reviews Patient Rights and Responsibilities
- Reviews how to report patient complaints, concerns and compliments
- Reviews advanced directives with patients
- Collects and posts payments to patient’s accounts
- Opens cashier drawer, balances cashier drawer and closes cashier drawer
- Uses jellyfish to check in patients and verify identity
Requirements
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED). At least one (1) year of experience working in registration or billing of a healthcare setting preferred.
