The Adams County Regional Medical Center (ACRMC) announces its selection as a recipient of the Ohio Appalachian Community Grant Program, receiving a substantial allocation of $5,006,180. This grant marks a pivotal moment in the advancement of healthcare services for the region, particularly in Brown County. This project will provide a significant step forward in addressing the healthcare accessibility gap that emerged following the closure of Brown County Hospital in 2014.
The awarded funds will catalyze the construction of a state-of-the-art medical facility located near Mt. Orab, extending ACRMC's reach to serve the healthcare needs of Brown County residents. The facility will house an array of essential services, including primary care, physical, occupational, and speech therapy, radiology imaging services, and a lab draw station. Moreover, through collaborative efforts with the University of Cincinnati Physicians Group, the facility will facilitate access to specialized medical expertise, ensuring comprehensive care for the community.
Governor Mike DeWine, Lieutenant Governor Jon Husted, and Ohio Department of Development Director Lydia Mihalik recently unveiled 30 major economic development projects in Ohio’s Appalachian region that will raise the area’s profile as a travel destination and improve the quality of life for local residents as a portion of the Ohio Appalachian Community Grant Program, a groundbreaking initiative aimed at bolstering economic development and enhancing the quality of life across the region. ACRMC's inclusion in this program underscores its commitment to advancing healthcare accessibility and fostering community well-being.
“Nearly a decade ago, our medical center teetered on the brink of closure. Today, fueled by the unwavering support of our communities, we're not just building facilities or implementing programs; we're forging a path to a brighter, healthier tomorrow for Adams and Brown counties,” said Alan Bird, Chief Executive Officer of ACRMC. “These awards signify more than infrastructure; they're a testament to our collective commitment to progress and prosperity, ensuring that no challenge can overshadow our resolve to thrive.”
This marks the second award from the funding program. In April, it was revealed that ACRMC, in collaboration with a local school district, has been selected as a recipient of the Appalachian Children’s Health Initiative under the Appalachian Community Grant Program. This initiative seeks to distribute over $64 million to the Appalachian Children Coalition, aiding in the development or enhancement of community and school-based health clinics, along with the introduction of healthcare-focused workforce development initiatives. As part of this endeavor, the Adams County Ohio Valley School District will receive $1,337,328 to launch a telemedicine program.
The Adams County Regional Medical Center and the school district will introduce a telemedicine program tailored to address the healthcare needs of students, teachers, administrators, and support staff. This initiative seeks to identify and address health issues while offering comprehensive care and health education, especially in areas where healthcare accessibility and resources are limited. ACRMC will deploy medical assistants to each of the district's three PreK-12 schools, easing the workload of school nurses and facilitating access to telehealth visits and hospital services. Moreover, the project will allocate resources to establish a community mobile care program. This program, staffed by a nurse practitioner, medical assistant, and registration specialist, will provide healthcare services and education to the local Amish population. By doing so, it aims to overcome transportation and other barriers, ensuring that healthcare remains accessible to all members of the community.
